Back Porch Ideas

Transforming your back porch into a comfortable and inviting space can provide you with a relaxing outdoor retreat. Spring is the perfect time to refresh your back porch and create a vibrant and inviting space. Here are some spring-inspired ideas for your back porch:

  • Fresh Flowers: Fill your back porch with the beauty and fragrance of fresh flowers. Place potted plants, such as tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, or pansies, on tables or hang them from hooks. Consider creating a flower centerpiece or arranging a variety of blooms in colorful pots.
  • Spring Colors: Embrace the colors of spring by incorporating them into your back porch decor. Choose pastel shades like light blues, pinks, yellows, and greens for cushions, pillows, and rugs. Add pops of color with vibrant accessories like throw blankets, lanterns, or outdoor artwork.
  • Outdoor Dining: Set up a cozy outdoor dining area on your back porch to enjoy meals in the fresh air. Place a bistro table and chairs or a larger dining table with comfortable seating. Use cheerful table linens, colorful dinnerware, and fresh flowers as a centerpiece.
  • Spring-themed Accessories: Decorate your back porch with spring-themed accessories. Hang a wreath made of fresh or faux flowers on the door. Place decorative birdhouses, butterfly feeders, or wind chimes to attract wildlife and add a whimsical touch.
  • Outdoor Pillows and Cushions: Swap out your current outdoor pillows and cushions with fresh, spring-inspired designs. Look for floral patterns, leaf motifs, or geometric prints in light and airy fabrics. These will instantly brighten up your seating area and create a welcoming atmosphere.
  • Outdoor Rug: To add warmth and style to your back porch, lay down a colorful and weather-resistant outdoor rug. Choose a design that complements your overall spring theme and brings a sense of comfort to the space.
  • Spring Cleaning: Give your back porch a thorough spring cleaning to start the season fresh. Sweep away dirt and debris, wipe down furniture, and clean windows and screens. This will make your back porch feel clean and ready for the new season.

Consider the weather conditions in your area and choose outdoor furniture and accessories that are suitable for springtime. With these ideas, you can transform your back porch into a delightful spring oasis where you can relax and enjoy the beauty of the season.

Back Porch Vintage Lemonade Set

Vintage lemonade sets are a favorite of mine to collect and display on our back porch. This set was just $19, and I use it almost daily in so many settings.

However, I enjoy iced tea a bit more than lemonade, so I will serve that while you join me today on our cozy antique spring back porch.

I would say this set is from sometime back in the 1970s, based on its flower patterns.

Beverage carts and coffee bars are so popular in home decor today. I think it’s because they create a commonplace for us to gather.

So why not add a simple vintage set like this one to your back porch this spring, which you can enjoy with family and friends?

Back Porch Wicker Table

Do you like this wicker table?

I found it out antiquing this past summer for $45 in Maine.

The top comes off, and it can be used as a serving tray.

I love this feature, and it’s the real reason I bought it. I also like the colors and the wicker for our antique-inspired back porch.

OK, can we talk about this antique crock now?

I have always wanted to collect antique crocks, but they are always so darn expensive. I inherited two large, beautiful crocks from my mother that I use all the time, and I thought that would be enough.

Until I saw this beauty priced at $100 and on sale for $60, that was a bargain for an antique crock in my book!

And I knew just what I wanted to do with it…

Fill it with purple flowers for spring on our back porch, of course!

I adore the combination of purple and dark woods. The contrast is just stunning to me.

At the local supermarket, I grabbed the following:

  • 2 bouquets of tulips.
  • 2 bouquets of greenery with baby’s breath.
  • 2 bouquets of pink Lily of the Incas.
  • 1 Potted Chrysanthemum.

to create these two beautiful flower arrangements for our back porch coffee table. Unfortunately, I will still need to bring them inside at night, as our temperatures here in Vermont are still on the cool side.

A Big Old Back Porch Antique Trunk

When I set out antiquing earlier this week, my main objective was to find a big old antique trunk that I could use as a coffee table with our new wicker furniture on the back porch.

I wanted a very large and tall trunk —one that I could use as a work table, for entertaining, and, of course, for storage!

And there she was, sitting pretty at the absolute last booth I went to in a sea of vintage vendor booths… And it was in the 40% OFF booth, too. Woo Hoo!

Once I got it home and onto the back porch, I used my new favorite find, Restor-A-Finish in Mahogany, to wipe the entire trunk down. Boy, did it look amazing!

But I didn’t stop there; I then rubbed it down with Feed-N-Wax to make it look even more beautiful and to protect it from the elements.

This is the same process I used on this old wallpaper table and this Wardrobe Closet Makeover.

I love how cozy the antique trunk looks on our back porch, and the added storage space is just awesome!
