Vintage Eclectic Decor

Vintage eclectic decor is a design style that combines elements of vintage and eclectic aesthetics to create a unique and visually interesting space. It is a style that celebrates individuality, creativity, and a love for all things vintage.

The eclectic aspect of vintage eclectic design allows for the incorporation of various styles, colors, patterns, and textures. It embraces the idea of mixing and matching different elements to create a cohesive yet visually stimulating space. This can include combining furniture pieces from different eras, incorporating bold patterns and prints, and layering textures such as velvet, leather, and woven fabrics.

One of the key principles of vintage eclectic design is the emphasis on personalization and self-expression. The space should reflect the individual’s unique tastes, interests, and collections. This could mean displaying vintage artwork, showcasing a collection of antique books, or incorporating sentimental items passed down through generations.

Sunroom

What is a sunroom in a house?

Sunrooms vary in design and style. They are generally rooms with walls of windows and glass.

Sunrooms are multi-purpose rooms that can be made into living rooms, sitting rooms, home offices, craft rooms, dining nooks, and home libraries.

Who doesn’t enjoy an extra room filled with windows and brilliant sunshine?

Sunroom Space Before

The sunroom pictured above is located at our home in Vermont and is adjacent to our master bedroom. It is my favorite room in the house. But we were totally underutilizing it! It had become just a walk-through room to our main open floor plan, which you may see more of in our new interior paint remodel Sherwin Williams Stardew: A Home Interior Makeover post.

This needed to change!

Four-Season Sunroom Makeover

So we set out to repaint and turn this sunroom into a craft room/home office for myself with Wedgewood Gray and Chantilly Lace paint colors, which you may see and read more about in the post, 4 Season Sunroom Makeover with Grand Mountain Views.

What is a Craft Room?

A craft room is a space dedicated to creative activities such as crafting, sewing, painting, and other DIY projects. It is a place to let your imagination run wild and bring your artistic ideas to life. A well-organized craft room typically includes storage for supplies, a work surface or table, good lighting, and easy access to tools and materials. It is a space where you can find inspiration, unleash your creativity, and enjoy the process of making something with your own hands.

Craft Room & Home Office

Is a sunroom suitable for a craft room?

Yes, I sure think so. I spend so much time decorating and blogging that creating a home office and craft room in my favorite room of the house just sounds splendid to me.

Vintage Eclectic Furniture

Built-in Bookshelves

Let’s start with this room’s built-in bookshelves.

I organized all my new and vintage books by size and some by hardcover and softcover. You may also find more book decorating inspiration in the Decorating with Vintage Books: 20+ Ideas to Try post.

I broke up the shelving by displaying some of my favorite vintage eclectic collections, like these old cameras.

Windows

As we were remodeling this room, one of my main goals in this sunroom was to be sure that the three windows looking out over the mountains were nicely framed without much distraction.

The mountain views are definitely the main attraction in this new space.

I chose a few white spine books to rest on the shelves on each side of the windows.

I then topped each stack of books with a vintage eclectic McCoy vase, which I found while out “Thrifting with the Gals.”

When it comes to color palettes in vintage eclectic design, there are no strict rules. The color scheme can vary from muted and earthy tones to vibrant and bold hues. It’s common to see a mix of warm and cool colors, with pops of accent colors to create visual interest.

With their subtle pastel colors, the vintage McCoy vases feel like spring and beautifully complement the mountain views from the window.

To achieve a cohesive look in vintage eclectic design, it’s important to find a balance between the various elements. While the style welcomes diversity, there should still be a sense of harmony within the space. This can be achieved by establishing a focal point, creating visual flow through the arrangement of furniture and accessories, and using complementary colors and patterns.

Vintage Eclectic Wallpaper Table

I found this tall vintage wallpaper table while in Maine this past fall. I didn’t know what I would use it for at the time; I just knew that I adored it and that these tables can be so hard to come find affordably.

A vintage wallpaper table can give a space a unique vintage flair while establishing a focal point for the space it will adorn.

And here is the vintage wallpaper table today, serving as my makeshift workbench/desk, a perfect addition to this new craft room.

More Vintage Wallpaper Decor Ideas

In decorating my new workbench/desk, I wanted to add colorful and eclectic details that would stir creativity and inspire.

In terms of accessories, vintage eclectic design often incorporates unique and one-of-a-kind pieces. This could include vintage-inspired lighting fixtures, antique mirrors, vintage textiles, and quirky collectibles. These accessories add personality and charm to the space, further enhancing the overall vintage eclectic aesthetic.

On my Vintage Eclectic Desk

  • Vintage drawers for storage
  • Eclectic used paintbrush collection
  • A bowl filled with my price tags for my vintage booth.
  • Balls of Yarn
  • Paper flower bouquet made by Fresh Cut Paper.
  • Warm lighting
  • Vintage candle for ambiance

Textile Rack

At the end of my new workbench/desk, a vintage rack with hooks displays multiple patterned materials I have collected along the way.

Eclectic Dishy Hooks

And one of my favorite DIYs this year has been these dishy hooks you can make in minutes.

I made this dishy hook to hang my Schumaker Taskwear apron on, “Made for people who do,” that I found in Maine this past fall. You can see more on this apron in the 10 Best Fall Inspired Vintage Decor Ideas post.

This photo was taken before I added the McCoy vases to the bookshelves. I had first started with vintage blue bottles.

Inspiration Photos

Above the vintage wallpaper table now hangs a photo of Richard Feynman from Apple’s 1998 “Think Different” marketing campaign. Framed in an antique border that I found at a small shop in Rhode Island years back.

It’s one of my favorite takeaways from my 12 years as an educational sales representative with Apple Inc. On each side of Richard Feynman, I hung two recognition awards signed by Steve Jobs.

The sunshine was surely flowing into this room when I took this photo below.

Eclectic Vintage Coffee Table

Another vintage find is this small yet tall table, which I use now as a coffee table. It was probably originally designed as a side table.

I like the taller height; I can move it right up to the craft room’s sofa sectional with my computer to blog.

And also, if I have food, our Bernese Mountain Dog, Ella, won’t be able to reach it, well maybe not as easily…

Vintage Eclectic Accessories

I’ve since added a couple of vintage ironstone molds with vintage scissors and spools to the coffee table. Super cute. I love using vintage molds as bowls.

Ektorp White Small Sectional

The white Ektorp small sofa sectional remains in this room. The wallpaper table is the focal point, and the white sectional is cozy and beautifully complements the room. White is a great furniture neutralizer when you are decorating in a vintage and eclectic interior design style.

This Ektorp sectional is also slip-covered and can easily be washed. Unfortunately, though, last I checked, IKEA no longer sells the Ektorp line. But the slipcovers are available on Amazon.

Eclectic and Vintage Creativity Room

I think I’m going to call my new eclectic vintage-inspired sunroom my creativity room. Since I blog as a hobby, a home office sounds a bit stuffy, and I’m not the biggest crafter in the world either, so the craft room is out, too.

I like it!

My creativity room it is.

Filled with all my favorite colors, possessions, Ella, and, of course, the welcoming in of all of you today.

Let the creativity flow.

It just started snowing outside, and I couldn’t be happier with my new little creativity craft room.

Eclectic Rug

The hardest part of decorating this room was finding a vintage-style rug that wasn’t too large or too small for the space. Oh yes, and I wanted it in pink!

Finding vintage rugs can be difficult sometimes with all their odd ranges and sizes.

I found this Momeni Rugs, Isabella Traditional Medallion Flat Weave Area Rug in a pink 9’3″ X 11’10” on Amazon. It’s not vintage, but it sure does look vintage, and the colors are gorgeous in the sunroom next to the white sectional sofa and the Wedgewood Gray bookshelves.

The only con I found when purchasing this rug is that it arrived folded up and rolled, causing wrinkles and creases. I’m okay with this, though, as the furniture covers most of it, and the rug will lie flat in time. And the price was right for this size rug. I’ve since purchased the same rug but in blue for our master bedroom, and that rug came rolled without any wrinkles, as an FYI.

I also purchased these rug pad grippers that keep the corners nice and tight to the floor.

Vintage Logo Chalkboard

My husband hand-drew my Dabbling & Decorating logo for me on this vintage chalkboard to hang in my new creativity room:)

Before he did, though, I repainted the old, worn chalkboard using Black Rust-Oleum Flat Chalkboard Spray. It worked like a charm to spruce up this old chalkboard’s finish.

Vintage & Eclectic Coziness

And after skiing, I came home to this vintage quilt delivery from River House Designs on our front doorstep. Isn’t she a beauty?

An excendptional room – I love what you’ve donoe with it. But you are right the view is the brilliant star of the room. Why not call it the “mountain room”, or just what it is, the “sunroom”. The “creativety” room is awkward and does not easily roll off the tongue. Regardless, it’s a beautiful room! Congratulations!

    1. Thanks so much Sharron. I think it will always be our sunroom. And I’m always open to suggestions! We’ll see how it evolves:)
