Enhance your home with easy fall flower arrangements. Find inspiration on how to gather and arrange foraged elements with vibrant hydrangeas.
Creating fall flower arrangements with foraged autumn bouquets is the perfect way to bring the vibrant colors of fall into your home.
With rich hues of oranges, golden yellows, deep browns, and deep reds, these floral arrangements capture the essence of the season, making them the ideal easy decorations for any space.
By using locally foraged fresh flowers for fall, you can craft unique, natural displays that celebrate the beauty of nature while offering a sustainable and charming touch to your seasonal decor.
Foraging for Flowers of Fall
What is Foraging?
Foraging is the practice of searching for and harvesting wild plants, flowers, berries, and other natural materials from their natural environment for personal use.
Traditionally, foraging was a method of gathering food, but today, it extends to collecting materials for crafting, cooking, and decoration with a variety of autumn colors.
Just look at the radiant reds with the bright flowers; it’s like fall magic.
In the context of fall, foraging can involve gathering elements that capture the essence of the season, such as vibrant autumn leaves, acorns, branches, and wildflowers, which are often used to create seasonal decor like fall flower designs or a festive centerpiece.
The goal of foraging is to sustainably and respectfully harvest nature’s bounty while enjoying the beauty of the outdoors.
Foraging for the Beauty of Autumn
Join me for a refreshing hike through the Vermont mountains as we forage for the perfect festive fall arrangement. We will walk around Stratton Mountain’s snow-making pond, a favorite spot for foraging and walking our Bernese Mountain Dog, Ella.
Together, we’ll gather seasonal flowers, bursting with vibrant colors, to craft beautiful bouquets featuring some of my favorite blooms.
With each step, you’ll discover the magic of creating your own unique fall flower arrangement using nature’s finest seasonal treasures.
How do I choose the best foraging bag or basket?
The best foraging baskets start with your personal preference. I chose this basket today because it’s large, lightweight, and can hold many foraged elements. The basket’s handle also makes it easy to carry and set down for hands-free access.
I also like using canvas shoulder bags when gathering minor foraged elements like acorns, chestnuts, mushrooms, etc. You may even choose foraging bags that attach to your belt buckle.

I prefer using a basket like this, too, as I can better visualize how the foraged fall blooms will look in my fall flower bouquet once we return home.
I collected red, orange, green, and yellow leaf branches in my foraging basket.
I added a few evergreen branches and finished my collection with several cut pink limelight hydrangeas from our backyard foliage.
I love the pink hues mixed in with all the other fall colors.
And don’t skimp on those evergreen branches! Evergreens add winter texture and pair beautifully with the fall-colored leaves and pink hydrangeas.

Forage with me at Stratton Mountain, Vermont:
I’m always amazed at how a slight elevation change can shift the outdoor elements.
When I arrived at Stratton Mountain, just a 10-minute drive away, the wind was howling, the fall foliage was much further along, almost stick-season-like, and a storm was rolling in over the mountain. It certainly felt like winter was upon us.
What is stick season?
Stick season is the period in Vermont and other parts of New England between late fall and early winter, after the vibrant autumn foliage has fallen but before the first significant snowfall. During this time, trees are left bare, resembling sticks, hence the name.
It’s a transitional phase where the landscape becomes more muted, with grays and browns dominating the scenery, but many locals embrace its quiet beauty.
I’d love to share some of my favorite fall flower arrangements with you.
6 Fall Flower Arrangements
Now that we have our forage basket filled with autumn colors, let’s create a few arrangements to display throughout the home.
My first fall flower arrangement will be for our country-inn-style guest bedroom. See it’s transformation this time last year in this 3 Wallpaper Bedroom Designs Emblematic of a Cozy Vermont Inn post.
I’ll use this chippy-wired basket that I found Thrifting with the Gals a couple of years ago. You may see more in the post, Vintage Style Flower Centerpiece.
Country Sampler Magazine Article
And I was absolutely thrilled when Country Sampler Magazine featured one of it’s fall bouquets in their “Romantic Fall Florals” article.

1. Pink Fall Flower Arrangement
For this easy fall flower arrangement, I combined the pink limelight hydrangeas with the foraged evergreens and colorful leaves in the thrifted wire basket for all the expressions of fall.
I will not need water for this fall flower arrangement.
Unlike the fall centerpiece above, I want everything to dry out and fade naturally.

The evergreens created a nice solid bedding needed for the hydrangeas and leaves to rest upon since this wired foraging basket is so loosely open.
This fall flower arrangement beautifully matches the colors of the fallen leaves outside the bedroom’s two windows and accents the embroidered picture I picked up while out Thrifting with the Gals last week.

2. Vintage Tin Fall Flowers Arrangement
Next, I used this vintage tin, which I found at Vintage Market Days Vermont this past spring, for my second fall flower arrangement. It’s one of my favorite tins for decorating flowers.
See this old tin with tulips displayed in last spring’s Best Breakfast Nook Ideas for Morning Brunch post.
This fall flower arrangement, filled with faded pink hydrangeas, matches the blues and pinks this room accentuates. Again, there is no water in this arrangement either, as I will let the hydrangeas dry in place.
My girlfriend gave me the drawing of the two red and white coffee mugs, which I added to a vintage frame with a velvet bow. I love the cozy vibe it gives to this little bedroom space.

3. Thrifted Basket of Fall Flower Arrangements
Recently, I found this gorgeous round basket and bouquets of soft pink hydrangeas at this big old antique barn. See more in the Best Barn Finds in a Big Red Barn on a Sunday Foliage Drive post. And honestly, I can’t stop admiring it, now on our dining room table…
It first started out on our breakfast nook table like this…
Then, this fall flower arrangement quickly switched to our dining room table on one cozy rainy day.

4. Women’s Fall Vase Arrangement
This fall, at Vintage Market Days Vermont, I found this vintage McCoy boot vase.
And here I filled it up with a sampling of the bold autumn flowers I recently foraged—pink hydrangeas, colored leaves on branches, and a couple of pussywillow branches for a little beauty.
5. Two Blue Bottle Fall Flower Arrangements
The remaining foraged leaves made their way into two large blue bottles on our breakfast nook mantel for this beautiful season display.

6. Pink Hydrangeas Bundles
The pink hydrangeas make the most fabulous color displays wrapped in tissue paper selling in my vintage booth. You may see and learn more about having a vintage booth in the posts:

Such natural beauty available in your region. I can’t decide which is my favorite. They all make me feel like I’m wrapped in a cozy quilt reading a good book even though we’re still in 80 degrees down here. Have exciting to have the arrangement featured on County Sampler.
Hi Pamela, I’m glad you enjoyed it. I’m envious of your warm weather right now! Best to you and thanks for your sweet note.
Love these arrangements, Ann! Particularly the one in the boot vase. So fun! I have felt the same way this week. It has been a tough one.
Thanks Molly, yes a tough one indeed!
