Struggling to find the right white paint? Learn why Sherwin Williams Navajo White is a popular choice and how it can transform your home’s interior.
Transforming an open floor plan into a cohesive, inviting space can feel overwhelming, but choosing the perfect wall color and color palette makes all the difference.
In this makeover, Sherwin-Williams Navajo White, one of my favorite cream paint colors, takes center stage.
This warm, timeless hue blends beautifully with any design style, offering the versatility needed in an open-concept layout. I’ll walk you through how I ordered samples, evaluated this soft wall color under different lighting, and made the final decision to bring this transformation to life.
This was my inspirational photo for our Sherwin Williams Navajo White interior painting project: the antique wall color with the bright white trim. I really admire these warm white paint colors and creamy whites.
Sherwin-Williams Navajo White is a creamy, antique white paint color favored by interior designers for its timeless elegance and ability to enhance a wide range of spaces.
Its subtle yellow undertones add warmth without feeling overpowering, making it a perfect choice for creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere.
The undertones blend seamlessly into neutral color palettes, making Navajo White versatile for traditional, rustic, and modern interiors alike.
Whether used as a wall color or accent in your design, it pairs beautifully with natural textures and other soft hues, offering a classic charm that feels fresh in any setting.
I think Sherwin Williams Navajo White is more of a wall color than a trim color. Pair Navajo White wall color with Chantilly Lace as your wall trim, and you will have a stunning combination! Learn more in this Chantilly Lace Paint Benjamin Moore: A Sunroom Makeover post.
Wall Color
Starting an open floor plan paint project begins with selecting the right wall color to tie the space together.
Choosing the perfect shade for white walls can be tricky, as factors like lighting, ceiling height, and trim details all influence how the color reads.
Begin by narrowing your options to warm whites, which create a cozy and inviting feel while blending seamlessly with a variety of color palettes.
Use stick paint samples to visualize how the actual paint colors will look on the walls, trim, and ceiling under different lighting conditions. Evaluating these nuances, order samples, and testing colors ensures a harmonious and polished result.
Here is the before of our open floor plan walls with a dingy, outdated yellow paint color.

Remember that every home’s various lighting conditions, flooring, and interior designs may and will showcase various color hues for all paint colors and in different rooms. A paint color that works in one house may not work in another.
For instance, pine wood flooring will certainly show inherent differences with Sherwin Williams Navajo White paint, compared to wall-to-wall carpeting.
Trim Color
As mentioned above, when choosing Sherwin Williams Navajo White as your wall color, I recommend a bright white trim to accent the warmth and antique color.
For this paint project, I chose Acadia White for our entire room trim after sampling many brighter whites like Benjamin Moore’s Alabaster White, which was just a little too white for the look I was going for at the time.
I wished later that I had gone with a brighter white like my new favorite, Chantilly Lace Paint or Simply White.
We also chose, and I highly recommend choosing, a high-gloss or glossy finish for your paint trim. It will allow for easy cleaning and adds a nice contrast with the standard eggshell walls.
Painter
We hired a local painter to paint our whole house interior.
It took one painter a day and a half to paint our open floor plan, which includes a kitchen, living room, dining room, sitting room, and entryway. He applied two coats of Sherwin Williams Navajo Paint, the Acadia White trim, standard ceiling white paint, and all the prep work.
This space has many windows, doors, and built-in bookshelves, so there wasn’t much overall wall space that needed to be painted in our new favorite colors.
