Vintage Room Aesthetic
Creating a vintage room aesthetic involves incorporating elements and decor from a specific time period, typically from the early 1900s to the 1970s. Here are some ideas to help you achieve a vintage room aesthetic:
Creating a vintage room aesthetic is all about capturing the essence of a specific era and incorporating elements that evoke a sense of nostalgia. Mix and match different pieces and styles to create a unique and personalized vintage look that speaks to your personal taste.
Meets Four Season Sunroom
A four-season sunroom is a versatile and enjoyable addition to any home. It is typically enclosed with large windows or glass walls, allowing ample natural light to enter.
The key to designing a sunroom is to create a space that allows you to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors while remaining comfortable and functional. Let your creativity and personal preferences guide you in transforming your sunroom into a space that suits your needs and brings you joy.
Join me on this design journey as I transform this four-season sunroom into a vintage room design. Not once, but three times!
I just love sunrooms in homes! They can be used for so many things, like libraries, offices, breakfast rooms, reading rooms, etc. There are so many options that it’s hard to pinpoint just one. I have turned this four-season sunroom from a walk-through space into a pretty sitting area to a home library, and today, it is my craft room/office space.
And each transformation had, and has today, a vintage room aesthetic.
First Vintage Room Decor Sunroom Makeover
I struggled with decorating this space at first because I simply didn’t like the paint colors. The walls and ceiling were both green, and the built-in bookshelves were a dingy yellow-white.
So we decided to repaint this sunroom using Bunny Gray from Sherwin Williams on the walls and Alabaster White for the bookshelves and trim. I was looking forward to a fresh coat of paint and brightening up this space for spring by adding all the vintage room charms.
Vintage Room Furniture
A few vintage room furniture ideas that I chose for this four-season sunroom are:

These three pieces were the foundation for this new vintage room style.
Lilacs
Lilacs are just gorgeous this time of the year, and I picked these, courteous of my neighbors from Ireland! The color is so beautiful with the pink rug and the gray and white accents.
Salvaged Window Painting
This vintage-painted window I found years ago at an antique shop while I was traveling in Rhode Island. I never did much with it, but now I just love it hanging in the sunroom window! It’s framed in the sunroom windows with white flowers in vintage jars from our apple trees that are just starting to bloom.
Thrifted Retro Vintage Room Accessories
Retro room accessories can add a fun and nostalgic vibe to any space. Here are some ideas for retro-inspired accessories to enhance a vintage room.
Vintage room Pillow Accents
I picked up and added these white retro leather pillows at a yard sale. I thought they would be an ideal touch for this new vintage room transformation on the white loveseat.
Look at little Ella, who was just 10 weeks old then and is six years old today. She’s sassy to the end.
Built-In Bookshelves
To keep this room light and bright, I turned the books on the built-in bookshelves the opposite way. The spine of the books is now facing inward, which also projects a vintage room vibe. Check out this Decorating with Vintage Books: 20+ Ideas to Try post for more ideas.
A vintage-style basket filled with apple tree blossoms adds a beautiful spring touch of color and brings the outdoors in.
Layered Vintage Mirror Wall
Creating a layered vintage mirror wall can add depth and visual interest to your room while also giving it a retro touch. On this wall, I gathered all sizes and styles of various vintage mirrors that I had collected throughout all my Thrifting with the Gals‘ outings.
To achieve the layered look, position the mirrors at different heights and angles. Overlap some of the mirrors partially, use smaller mirrors to fill the gaps between larger ones, or place them diagonally for added visual interest.
Enhance the vintage aesthetic by adding decorative elements around the mirrors. Consider placing vintage-inspired sconces, wall art, or small shelves with retro decor items between the mirrors. This will further enhance the layered effect and crate a cohesive vintage room look.
Consider adding additional elements, such as fairy lights or plans to complete the vintage mirror wall.
Sunroom Before
Here are photos of this sunroom before. It was a mismatch of colors and furnishings.
Vintage Room Meets Future Sunroom Designs
Since this post was first written, this sunroom has gone through two more vintage room variations.
Next, it was turned into a home library, which you may see more of in the Bring Books to Life with a Small Home Library
It was then once again repainted, which you can see in the 4 Season Sunroom Makeover with Grand Mountain Views post.
Lastly, this vintage room was turned into a craft/home office space for me, which you may see in this Vintage Eclectic Decor Meets Craft Room Design post. Which is my favorite, at least for the time being…
