Valentine's Day Wreaths with Ice Skates on Front Door

Celebrate Valentine’s Day with a creative twist. Learn how to turn your old Christmas wreath into a vintage-inspired Valentine’s Day wreath.

Here we are in early February, and I am hanging on dearly to our three Christmas Wreath traditions on the front door of our home in Maine! With a little tweaking of the bows and the addition of vintage ice skates, these old Christmas wreaths will be turned into a festive Valentine’s Day wreath.

Valentine Wreath Ideas

A Valentine’s Day wreath is a lovely and festive way to decorate your home or front door for a romantic holiday. Here are some ideas to create a beautiful Valentine’s Day wreath:

  • Heart-Shaped Valentine’s Day Wreath: Start with a heart-shaped foam or wire wreath base. Use various materials like fabric, ribbon, or felt to cover and decorate the wreath. You can wrap the base with red or pink fabric and then add smaller fabric or felt hearts in different shades of red and pink. Secure the hearts to the wreath with hot glue or wire. Add some decorative elements like faux flowers, ribbons, or bows to complete the look.
  • Floral Wreath: Create a wreath using artificial flowers in shades of red, pink, and white. Choose flowers like roses, tulips, or peonies to give it a romantic touch. Attach the flowers to a foam or wire wreath base using hot glue or floral wire. You can also add some greenery or foliage to enhance the overall look. Finish off with a ribbon or bow for a charming Valentine’s Day wreath touch.
  • Paper Heart Wreath: Cut out a bunch of heart shapes from colored cardstock or patterned scrapbook paper. Use a foam or cardboard wreath base and attach the paper hearts with hot glue or double-sided tape. Arrange the hearts in layers, overlapping them slightly, to create a full and dimensional wreath. You can add some embellishments like glitter, sequins, or small paper flowers to make it more festive.
  • Ribbon Wreath: Use a foam or wire wreath base and wrap it with a wide ribbon in a color of your choice, such as red or pink. Secure the ribbon ends with hot glue. Then, take a variety of smaller ribbons in different shades and patterns and tie them in bows or loops, attaching them to the wreath with hot glue. Add some small embellishments like heart-shaped buttons or beads for extra charm.
  • Balloon Wreath: Inflate a bunch of small balloons in shades of red, pink, and white. Use a foam or wire wreath base and attach the balloons to it using hot glue. Arrange the balloons closely together to cover the entire wreath. You can add some ribbon or tulle bows for a finishing touch.

Personalize your Valentine’s Day wreath with your preferred colors, materials, and embellishments. Hang it on your front door or use it as a centerpiece for your Valentine’s Day celebrations. It’s a beautiful way to add a touch of love and romance to your home decor.

Valentine’s Day Wreath Outdoors

We celebrate Christmas by decorating with a three-wreath tradition on the front door of our cottage in Maine. Learn more in this 3 Wreath Christmas Tradition On A 1930s Front Door post.

The wreaths stay fresh for so long that I decided to repurpose and upcycle our now-old holiday wreaths into a Valentine’s Day wreath. This is a nice cost-saving option, too.

Vintage Ice Skates, Pink Flowers, and Icicles

Making a few simple changes to transform one’s old Christmas wreaths into a festive front-door Valentine’s Day wreath is so rewarding and fun. I hung these vintage white ice skates that I found thrifting to the middle of the three wreaths with wire from a craft store, and I found the bows on Amazon to match the Essex Green House Trim.

Soon after hanging the Valentine’s Day wreath, we welcomed a large snowstorm here in New England. This is one of the many reasons I try to keep my outdoor decor simple and durable! Look how the simple pink faux flowers just pop in that winter snow.

This little switcheroo cost me absolutely nothing other than the bows and thrifted ice skates. I found the pink faux flowers in the home’s attic.

When the winter storm was over, it warmed up quickly. The icicles on the Valentine’s Day wreath started to form, and I became anxious for a beautiful bouquet of indoor flowers.
